Parents Who Teach Goal Setting Will Help The Teen Succeed in Life
There are those who believe that there is a purpose for every single person in this world. Some call this destiny while others call it faith but those who are willing to face that challenge head on have a strong chance of getting out of it with the head held high.
Studies have shown that people who have a goal in life are likely to succeed compared to those who have know idea what they are doing. This doesn't have to start with something but this develops further in the future and should always start when the person is still a teen. Here are some tips that parents can use to help the child achieve it.
First and foremost, the goal has to be realistic. Parents can help make this happen by providing the proper tools and words of encouragement. For example, teens that want to be one of the stars in the National Basketball League or NBA can be enrolled in sports clinics.
If the goal is a bit too ambitious, difficult yet impossible, the best way to do it is by putting these into phases then working one step at a time to achieve it.
The best way to do this is by figuring out what is needed to make it happen. Instead of keeping this bottled up inside, this has to be written and posted somewhere in the room to serve as a reminder that every single day brings the person one step closer to realizing that dream.
An example could be someone who wants to be a pilot. Everyone knows those who fly need to have good eyesight and are skilled in math to calculate wind, altitude, speed and the amount of fuel in the tank.
The parents can take additional tutorial classes in these subjects to be able to excel in secondary school and in college to make this dream come true.
The teen must be praised during every step of the way. It is a fact that there will be setbacks but if this is something that the person wants, parents must be ready to provide words of comfort that will be important when such an opportunity comes again in the future.
There could be many causes why the plan did not work. Instead of giving up, perhaps this should be approached in another way that could produce better results.
At the same time, the teen should also learn to reward oneself for a job well done when completing one phase and moving on to the next. This goal is not about pleasing family members or friends. This is about going after something that the individual wants.
No matter how well we plan, things change and what we wanted back then is different from something we want now. The teen should be able to open up this topic with the parents at the same time, these people should be understanding with the choice that is made.
After all, this is the life of the teen and parents have to think whether this dream is the kid's or was is theirs.
Planning is essential in any endeavor be it for business or for personal gain. Unless this appears to be realistic and a road map has been made, no one will be able to get to where "X" marks the spot.
